Knowledge ~ the root of all evil
Genesis 2:16 - And the Lord God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."
Genesis 3:6 - When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it...
greed caused Adam and Eve to succumb to the temptations of the evil serpent...
they disobeyed God's commandment, and ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil...
As a result... they sinned... And that marked the downfall of man...
An interesting illustration of greed that Eunice and I observed the other day in my very own kitchen:
(our kitchen top was full of ants.. so we decided to trace why there were so many ants.. what had attracted them to come.. we've never had such an invasion of ants.. and all the while when my mum was ard.. there were no ants.. and the day after she left.. the ants came.. "-_- ... and we found out that the ants were there because of my sis's pot of honey...)
Due to Greed, the ants went into the pot of honey... which led them to their own death... coz they got stuck in the honey.. and couldn't come out..the only thing they could do was squirming/swimming slowly in the pot of honey.. gasping for air on the surface... next thing they know... they got washed down the sink... and the rest of them on the counter top.. they were all squashed to death.. mercilessly.. mmmmzz..
It just dawned upon me (while I was in the shower today)..with increased knowledge and having an edge over others in a specific sphere (ie. IT stuff, Music, General Knowledge etc. even biblical knowledge), we become critical and judgemental.. (it's hard to avoid the increase in probability of judging others of their skills or whatever.. b'coz of the knowledge we've gained in that specific sphere)
I rmbred when I was in Pri School or was it Sec School.. we used to wish that if only Qin Shi Huang (the china emperor) had burnt all the books then.. we wouldn't need to study... Perhaps we should trace back to right from creation times.. if only Adam and Eve didn't eat from the tree of knowledge.. perhaps all of us will be living simply.. just survive without technology.. without sins.. without power/electricity... without travelling ard in cars/planes/boats... we'll just 24/7 spend time with God.. with family.. with friends.. day is moving ard time.. night is resting time... how nice would that be? And don't need to worry abt food... don't need to worry abt getting a job.. an education/qualification..don't need to worry abt a shelter over the head... worry abt not getting enuff sleep & rest..
But what's happened had happened.. no point thinking of the what ifs...and if onlys... However.. it's interesting to note that..after the many generations of parents.. forcing kids to pursue higher education/qualification than themselves... it has come to a point of "good rebellion" (what an irony!?! how can rebel be good?) well, to parents it may be rebellion.. but from another perspective.. it's good.. b'coz I noticed that recent generations have come to the realisation that there's more to it than pursuing a higher education/qualification.. there's more to it than just obtaining knowledge.. it's good to have knowledge.. but it's not everything there is to life..
what good is there.. if you have all the knowledge in the world but you don't have friends... you don't have a good relationship with family..?
what good is there.. if you know the truths in the bible, but doesn't apply it in your life?
what good is there.. if you have good education/qualification.. good career... a fantastic house... loads of money.. but you're all alone...?
Ultimately it still boils down to relationships.. with family, friends, pple.. and of coz God.. or else Life is meaningless...
